According to CRUE, universities need an average of 433,000 euros and 9 technicians to implement digital transformation

MADRID, November 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish universities warn of a “lack of resources” to implement all the digital transformation projects they aspire to, which they estimate at 433,000 euros and 8.9 technicians.

This is reflected in the biennial report Universitic 2022 published by the Crue-Digitalization sector commission, which reveals the level of digital maturity of Spanish universities, i.e. the degree of success with which they have implemented new technologies to optimize their results in all processes. institution.

Crue emphasizes that this study is “groundbreaking” internationally, as is the transparency exercise, which involved a total of 62 university institutions, 87% of the Crue-affiliated presence.

The report points out that less than a third of universities can propose multi-year financial plans for their digital strategy or long-term infrastructure, so digital transformation “is not implemented in practice, as efforts at the moment only allow us to focus on some aspects of digitalisation”.

Universitic uses the digitalmd4u maturity model, which consists of 21 areas, 37 strategic objectives and 334 indicators that determine the university’s degree of digitization and set improvement targets. This method was applied to the 30 institutions that completed the last two editions (2020 and 2022).

The report claims that, compared to the previous edition, universities are developing in their digital maturity in the four areas analysed: innovation, government management and transformation, the latter with an almost 30% increase.

Similarly, progress was made on seven strategic challenges: expanding digital culture and skills; optimize information security; gain a competitive advantage with quality services; meet student requirements; have the knowledge to make decisions and achieve the strategic goals of the university.

The document highlights that universities have increased investment in information technology thanks to funding of 33.1 million euros from European funds, which has enabled the launch of initiatives to increase the digital competence of students, teaching staff and administration. In addition, there has been a parallel increase in the number of universities assessing their digital skills.

In 2022, three out of four universities proposed a strategy to support teaching and research programmes; digital support increased in face-to-face teaching; Research was energized and the results were made visible through technology. Regarding the latter, the report confirms that 75% of universities have plans for the digital dissemination of scholarly activity.

University institutions realize that digitization has favored a more personalized interaction with the student body and that service outsourcing has receded due to improvements in digitization and university management processes, leading to optimization of management and resources.

However, the increase in interest in cyber security has led three of the four universities to define and implement security policies and regulations.
