A flood of requests for Princess Leonor’s new seal. 124,000 copies of the first edition of the commemorative stamp issued by Correos to mark the 18th anniversary of HRH Princess of Asturias, Mrs. Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz, as part of the “Ephemerides” series have already been sold out. Correos will issue the second and final edition of this commemorative stamp with a print run of 124,000 copies and a price of €3 each.
The design features a portrait of the princess against a silver foil background, giving the broadcast a modern and festive feel in keeping with the significance of the anniversary it is celebrating.
The Princess of Asturias was sworn in to the Constitution on October 31, the day she came of age. He did so at a plenary session of Congress and the Senate, a formal act before the Cortes established in the Constitution and a historical milestone to which philately once again bore faithful witness. In addition to being a means of franking, stamps are an excellent support for the transmission of a country’s history, culture and values, thanks to its universal and comprehensible language anywhere in the world.
It is not the first time that the likeness of the future Spanish monarch appears on stamps. In November 2015, at the age of just 9, and on the occasion of the first issue of the Princess of Asturias Prizes, which until the previous year and for almost 35 years had been awarded under the name Prince of Asturias Prizes, he was put into circulation in a run of 310,000 stamps as part of the “Grand Yarn”.
